January 26, 2018 marks the official release of Holly's 15 Hours To LA EP on Los Angeles based label Alpha Pup Records. The four track record will release on digital formats and limited edition orange / black splatter vinyl in a run of 500 copies. Features include close music allies Tapecut, Kyra and Distune, Copycatt, and Locant. Across 15 Hours To LA, Holly uses otherworldly synth tones, dissonant staccato, heavy low end, and frenzied digital drum-work, providing a synthetic journey where technicality and style meet at a unique cross roads.
Residing in Portugal, Holly's connection with Alpha Pup Records stemmed from a performance at Low End Theory and the general network of minds connected into that grid. This experience brought together the music that became 15 Hours To LA. With a flight to Los Angeles from Portugal that spanned 15 hours, the title was serendipitous and organically drawn into place. Taking the raw energy of his stay in Los Angeles, the final stages of the conceptual basis for the record stemmed outside of regular thought, giving Holly the path to tap into frenetic and technical music without mental hinderance. "I don't have any conceptual basis while putting my sounds together," states Holly. "I feel everything is very supernatural when creation is happening. In some ways, I feel that every experience I have in my daily-life makes me expressive with my music in a subconscious way."
With transitions happening in a multitude of lanes for Holly, taking home the winning prize for the first Goldie Awards was a really important propulsion point for the young producer and his introduction to the Alpha Pup family. Holly adds, "Goldie Awards was a great experience. Besides all the stuff that happened on a personal level to me, that was definitely one of the most important events this year for music culture, in my opinion. We had people from all over the world fly out for that battle. Music producers and DJ's from all different backgrounds and we had such a great vibe. I had the opportunity to meet some of the people that I look up to the most in the music scene. People like Diplo, A-Trak, Mija, DJ Craze, and Just Blaze, which I was so excited about! I was happy with the result, of course, and to know that I was on the level for the challenge since this was my first battle."
Momentum carried in strong waves over the last few years, 15 Hours To LA is only the beginning for Holly's path with Alpha Pup Records. The ethereal, yet ominous, intros and breaks of the EP turn metallic and flare at every turn, with high energy drops that are boisterous, yet rhythmically methodical. Blends between juxtaposing and eerie sounds are abound, arranged to compensate for every transition between tension and calmness. The results provide a breathtaking spin into experimental electronic music and adds to the prolific number of releases Holly continues to launch every year. Holly's 15 Hours To LA EP will drop January 26, 2018 on multiple formats, ushering in the first electronic title with Alpha Pup Records for the new year.
